About Southeast Technical Institute
Located near the borders of Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota, Sioux City, South Dakota is home to Southeast Technical Institute. The tri-state region has a population of more than 141,000 and offers a balanced combination of urban and rural settings and activities. A variety of water sport activities are available at Adventure Park and Wild Water West Waterpark, or watch professionals instead at the Catfish Bay Water Ski and Stage Show. Commando Paintball, Great Bear Recreation Park, and Huset¡¦s Speedway are other outdoor attractions. The Great Plains Zoo, Jesse James Pontoon Rides, Kirby Science Discovery Center and Heartland Country Corn Maze are designed for fun-seekers of all ages, as well as the Sertoma Butterfly House, the United States Geological Sergey¡¦s Center for Earth Resources Observation and Science, and Thunder Road Family Fun Park. The Wells Fargo Cinedome Theatre offers fine art performances, exhibits, and other cultural experiences. For those with a cultural bent, a variety of art galleries and the Visual Arts Center at the Washington Pavilion, a downtown Sculpture Walk, the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, and a number of community and repertory theaters. Museum enthusiasts can enjoy Buffalo Ridge, a Cowboy Ghost Town, the Center for Western Studies, Delbridge Museum of Natural History, the Old Courthouse Museum, the Museum of Visual Materials, the Sioux Empire Medical Museum, St. Joseph Cathedral, the Pettigrew Home and Museum, the USS South Dakota Battleship Memorial at Sherman Park, and a variety of historic walking tours. A lively nightlife rounds out the attractions of the city, with a selection of pubs, bars, lounges, and comedy clubs. Ample shopping choices are also available, including three malls, several major shopping centers, and downtown specialty shops and markets.
Southeast Technical Institute offers the AAS in graphic communications. The program requires the use of a MacBook Pro laptop computer. Coursework for the degree includes basic and advanced study in graphics math, digital publishing, design fundamentals, Web multimedia, design development, and portfolio design. General education courses required for the degree include: technical writing, English composition, general psychology. Electives include choices in principles of animation, modeling for animation, digital photography, and media writing. Students are encouraged to participate in an internship program as well, with approval from the department.
Southeastern Tech provides career development and personal counseling. The Institute makes every effort to help students with every dimension of their academic career.
Federal financial aid is available to those who qualify in the form of grants, loans, and work-study. Institute-based and external scholarships are available as well and students are encouraged to contact the financial aid office early to inquire about possible ways to fund their education. The financial aid office cautions students that aid refunds will not be delivered before classes begin, and ask students to plan accordingly with regard to purchasing books, tools, and other materials necessary to begin classes.
STI is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of North Central Accreditation.
