Northeast Mississippi Community College is a two-year institution located in Booneville, Mississippi. Booneville is a small community offering rich southern history and charm. It is known as the City of Hospitality. The Prentiss County Historical Preservation Society maintains the Rails & Trails Museum in Booneville. Exhibits include fossils excavated locally at the W.M. Browning Cretaceous Park four miles south of Booneville, Native American artifacts, Civil War items that relate to the strategic role Booneville and Prentiss County played during the War of the Rebellion, and railroad memorabilia accenting the railroad setting of the circa 1915 depot and the authentic Gulf, Mobile & Ohio caboose in which the museum is housed. Booneville is home to Bay Springs Lake, providing a variety of recreational opportunities including fishing, boating, swimming and water skiing. Numerous other facilities such as campgrounds, beaches, picnic areas, overlooks and a marina are provided as well. Local city parks in and around Booneville offer great facilities for sport and fitness activities such as baseball, football, soccer, and tennis, plus batting cages, walking tracks, and playground equipment.
NEMCC offers 2-year AA degree programs in interior design and photography. Coursework for these programs include two levels of drawing and design courses, and three or four levels of art exhibition. Art exhibition classes are required of all art majors regardless of chosen focus. The courses require attendance of 75% of all college art exhibitions during the semester that the student is enrolled. Submission of individual art work to at least one local, regional, or national exhibition is also required. In addition, the student must be available to assist in the hanging and presentation of Northeast art gallery exhibits.Students in these programs also study art history and appreciation and oral communication. The interior design degree program includes an introduction to interior design, and the photography degree program includes a course on basic photography. Available art electives include a course called Computers in Art, a study of the theory and practice of using the computer to create art. Students may also choose to study painting, ceramics, and graphics.
The Office of Financial Aid at NEMCC provides scholarship applications for all institutionally funded awards. NEMCC awards scholarships based on academic performance, athletics, and intended course of study. Available scholarships include yearbook scholarships, student achievement awards, band, chorus, and music department scholarships, and the Commercial Artist Scholarship. Agency scholarships available include the Hall Adams Fund Scholarship, the Alumni Scholarship, and the Tony Arnold Memorial Scholarship. The Northeast Mississippi Community College Award is based on academic achievement and financial need and is administered by the NE Development Foundation. Northeast Mississippi Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The institution is also accredited by the Mississippi State Accrediting Committee of Community and Junior Colleges. Student services include a counseling center offering resume assistance, interview skills training, time management and study skills training, career counseling and guidance, educational and social counseling, and job placement services. The student success center provides tutoring by faculty members in all academic areas. There are many available student activities such as athletics including baseball, men's and women's basketball, football, golf, softball and tennis. NEMCC is also home to chapters of the most prestigious honor societies of two-year institutions, Delta Epsilon Chi and Phi Theta Kappa.
