About Northampton County Area Community College
Northampton Community College is a two-year college in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Bethlehem is 90 miles west of New York City and 60 miles north of Philadelphia. Bethlehem is in the Lehigh Valley region and has a population of around 71,000. Each area of the city, north, south, and west have areas and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Bethlehem hosts a ten-day music festival, Musikfest, each August, which draws millions of people. Other annual events include the Celtic Classic, the Southside Film Festival, and the Northeast Rock Art Festival. The Bethlehem Area Public Library offers arts and entertainment. The Banana Factory showcases local artists.
Northampton began in 1967 with a class of 846 students and included eight career programs and 21 faculty members. The community college was first accredited in 1970.
Students interested in architecture design may complete a four semester architecture program. Students learn about design and concepts of architecture, critical thinking, materials, problem solving, communication, and computer technology. The architecture program is affiliated with the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture and students can join the American Institute of Architecture.
The interior design program prepares students for further study at a four-year college or for entry-level careers. The course of study includes current methods, materials, and techniques and is relevant to new technology and trends in the marketplace.
The art department offers a program in communication design, which trains students to find work as a graphic designer, computer graphics artist, web designer, or computer animator. Courses are hands-on and include web site design, 3-D computer animation, video game design, and digital design.
The art department also has a program devoted entirely to web design. Students are trained to find careers in creating web sites. Coursework includes Flash animation, PhotoShop, Illustrator, and Dreamweaver.
The third and final program in the art department is multimedia design. This prepares students to work with film, video, CDs, and DVDs. The courses are taught in a state-of-the-art multimedia studio.
The computer aided design program at Northampton prepares students for careers in mechanical design, drafting, CAD operation, or technical illustration. Coursework includes computers, graphics, CAD, physics, manufacturing, and team projects.
Students interested in financial assistance must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This will determine a student's eligibility for federal aid. Students may pay for tuition through federal and state loans, scholarships, grants, or private loans.
The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredits Northampton County Area Community College.
