About North Metro Technical College

North Metro Technical College is a small vocational-technical college located in Acworth, Georgia. Less than 30 miles north of Atlanta, the school is visible from Interstate Highway 70, making it conveniently located and easy to reach. Acworth is surrounded by two lakes that offer beaches for swimming, fishing, boating and camping opportunities. There are twelve parks surrounding the city that are perfect for picnicking. Those with a taste for history can stroll tree-lined streets and visit the many homes on the city's historical tour. Other historical landmarks include the Collins Avenue Historic District and the Cowan Farmstead.

North Metro's programs of study include a visual communications department offering a 2-year AAS degree program in visual communications, as well as an 18-month diploma program in the same field. In addition, the school offers one-year technical certificates in the fields of computer animation, print graphics, and Web site design. The AAS degree program includes general studies courses such as introduction to humanities and principles of economics. Fundamental occupational courses include introduction to computer graphics, drawing, publication design, and typography. A portfolio of completed work and an exit interview with presentation are required for graduation. Students may choose a specialization of either print design with courses such as vector drawing and printing and print production, or Web site design with courses including Web graphics and Web animation. The diploma program includes coursework in business English, communications, and math, as well as typography and publication design. Again students choose a specialization of either print design or Web site design with coursework similar to that of the AAS degree. For the diploma programs, students focus on either computer animation, publication design, or Web graphics and design, depending upon the chosen course of study. Additional hours are completed through chosen electives such as drawing, design, typography, and Web animation.

North Metro does not offer any school-funded scholarships. However, the school's financial aid office does receive scholarship postings from outside agencies. Upon acceptance to the school and completion of the financial aid application, all students are automatically considered for state and federal grants and scholarships based upon financial need and/or academic success or merit.

North Metro Technical College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate degrees, and by the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education. The college offers free tutoring, career counseling, and career search assistance to all students. The college recently won first place in the Professional Landcare Network Student Career Days competitions, placing first among 66 participating colleges and universities.
