About Nashville State Technical Community College
Founded in 1970, Nashville State Technical Community College has grown rapidly just as the booming southern city in which it is located. Nashville has something to offer everyone, but specializes in arts, music, and culture. The city and surrounding area boast a number of art galleries, museums, art cafes, and other artistic events and institutions. Shopping that appeals to creative types abounds in the form of art, music, and otherwise culture-inspired boutiques, shops, and supply stores. Dining and entertainment options are plentiful as well.
The college was initially named Nashville State Technical Institute and offered only five associates degrees. Today, the college boasts several satellite campuses in addition to the main campus. A number of courses are offered online as well. A newly built student services building provides 60,000 square feet dedicated to meeting the needs of students. Nashville State strives to continue to build on its solid reputation as a technical college that meets the educational and work force needs of Nashville and the surrounding region.
Nashville State Technical Community College offers the AAS in Web design, multimedia Design, and graphic design. The Web design concentration The Web Design program prepares students for a career designing web pages and web sites. Students can earn an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Web Design, or can earn a Technical Certificate in Web Page Authoring. The multimedia concentration is designed to prepare the student for an entry-level position in multimedia and new media development. The program aims to expose the student to a variety of media production and editing disciplines so they will understand and feel comfortable working with all types of digital media. The program is rooted in sound graphic design fundamentals and then expands the student's media repertoire with a working knowledge of pre-visualization techniques like scriptwriting and story-boarding. Students are also provided with exposure to industry standard hardware/software tools for creating desktop audio, desktop video, digital photography, and digital image manipulation.
The graphics design concentration program provides the necessary foundations in color, design and typography in conjunction with the leading software used to lay out pages, edit photos and create illustrations. Classrooms are equipped with Macintosh computers like those used by the vast majority of professionals in the industry.
Nashville State Technical Community College offers financial assistance from various programs comprised of federal, state, and institutional funds. The programs include grants, loans, scholarships, and work-study. Prospective students are encouraged to contact the financial aid office early in order to meet important deadlines for aid. Enrolled students are provided with academic, career, and personal counseling at no additional charge. Nashville State Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
