About Mid-South Community College
Mid-South Community College is a two-year public institution serving eastern Arkansas, western Tennessee and northern Mississippi. The campus is located in West Memphis, Arkansas, directly across the Mississippi River from Memphis, Tennessee. Southland Park Gaming and Racing, the world's largest greyhound racing facility, is open year-round. The city also features "Delta Heritage" attractions, festivals featuring entertainment, cooking contests and exhibits. The Main Street district features shopping malls, gift and specialty shops, flea markets and antique shops. The Riverside Speedway hosts stock car racing May through September. Just across the river in Memphis, visitors can tour Graceland, take a trip on the Memphis Queen Riverboat, or take in a game featuring the Memphis Redbirds or the Memphis Grizzlies. One of the largest celebrations in Memphis is Memphis in May, a month-long series of events to promote the city's heritage. Part of this festival is the World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest, the largest pork barbecue cooking contest in the world.
MSCC offers a Certificate of Proficiency in Web site design formulated to be completed in as little as one semester. The program provides the knowledge and skills required to complete certifications in Internet Webmaster technology. Enrolling students must first complete a course in computer fundamentals or an approved proficiency test to begin the program. Required technical courses include Web page design, Internet business fundamentals, CIW networking fundamentals, and CIW site design and methodology. After successful completion of these courses, students are prepared to take a CIW foundations exam, the CIW Design exam, and the CIW E-commerce certification exam. Passing of all three exams qualifies the graduate to be a Master Certified Internet Webmaster Designer.
MSCC offers academic scholarships for eligible students pursuing their first credit certificate or associate degree. The college also offers scholarships awarded by nomination including the Principal's Scholarship and the Academic All-Star Scholarship. In addition, the MSCC Foundation offers many memorial and privately funded scholarships to students based on criteria such as area of study and community service.
Mid-South Community College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The campus includes approximately 83 acres. The centerpiece of the campus is the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Educational Excellence. The facility includes state-of-the-art library media and learning centers, an award-winning multimedia conference room, a food service area, a testing room, computer labs, a book store, additional meeting rooms, and office space. The new Workforce Technology Center adds high-tech multimedia classrooms, computer upgrade and repair stations, automotive/manufacturing training area, and Diesel Maintenance Technology work spaces. The campus also offers many student clubs and activities including professional and honors organizations and special interest groups such as creative writing and book clubs.
