About Jackson State Community College
Located in the center of West Tennessee between Nashville and Memphis, Jackson is home to Jackson State Community College. The area offers a wide variety of attractions and recreation, including the Casey Jones Village and Casey Jones Home/Museum, Britton Lane Civil War Battlefield, the Dickson Gallery of Fine Art, The International Rock-A-Billy Hall of Fame, the N.C. & St.L Depot and Railroad Museum, the National Bird Dog Museum, Pinson Mounds Archaeological State Park, Civil War battlefields at Parker¡¦s Crossroads and Salem Cemetery, Shiloh National Military Park, Sheriff Buford Pusser Home and Museum, Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Farm, Tennessee River Museum, West Tennessee Cultural Heritage Museum, and the West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. Sports fans can enjoy West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx Baseball, and outdoor enthusiasts can pursue boating, swimming, and fishing at Lake Graham or relax and explore at Cypress Grove Nature Park, which offers 7,000 feet of winding boardwalk into an unspoiled 165-acre cypress forest, an observation tower, a lake, and trails. The area offers five golf courses, five parks with campgrounds, and a marina at the Birdsong Resort. The Ned McWherter Cultural Arts Center offers a performing arts center and monthly art exhibits. Other points of interest are Jumpin¡¦ Jack Shrimp Farm, Century Farm Winery, Wildflower Farm, and the Donnell Century Farm. Dining options are plentiful and range from fast food to casual to fine dining, including a variety of international cuisines as well as traditional Southern cooking.
Jackson State offers the AS in art. The two-year program is designed for students planning to earn a bachelor¡¦s degree in art or graphic design. In addition to general studies, coursework includes advanced mathematics, drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, graphics and printmaking.
Jackson State offers a number of extracurricular opportunities for students, including an athletic program, fitness center, organized educational, recreational, and social activities and events, and a number of student organizations to suit nearly every interest. Academic, career, and personal counseling are available at no charge to enrolled students. Federal financial aid in the form of grants, work-study, and the Perkins Loan are available to qualified students. The college offers merit-based and need-based aid as well as athletic scholarships.
Jackson State Community College is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree.
