ITT Technical Institute is a private college system offering technology-oriented programs in Bessemer, Alabama. Bessemer is home to Alabama Adventure, a popular theme park. The Bright Star, a restaurant and local institution located in downtown Bessemer, is known as the state's oldest continuously-operated eating establishment. Bessemer is just 20 miles south of Birmingham, Alabama's largest city. Birmingham is the cultural and entertainment capital of Alabama, offering numerous art galleries in the area including the Birmingham Museum of Art, the largest art museum in the state. Birmingham is also home to the state's major ballet, opera, and symphony orchestra companies such as the Alabama Ballet, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Ballet, Birmingham Concert Chorale, Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival and Opera Birmingham. Birmingham is also home to numerous cultural festivals that feature music, films, and regional heritage, including the music festivals City Stages and the Taste of 4th Avenue Jazz Festival, which runs concurrently with the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival. Other annual events include the Southern Heritage Festival, the annual pet parade known as Do Dah Day, and the Schaeffer Eye Center Crawfish Boil.
ITT Tech's School of information and technology offers a 2-year AAS degree in information technology with a Web development option. The Web development option of the program is designed to help graduates prepare to design, create and maintain Web sites. Additional topics are explored through classroom and laboratory experiences, include Web authoring with scripting and coding tools, Web application of database technology and other related technical subjects. The Information Technology program includes a foundation core of computing and general education courses, followed by study in Web development applications. The program is also available online, with coursework in Web technology, programming, design, digital typography, and animation and storyboarding for the Web. Completion of a Web design project, specifically the design and creation of an original Web site, is required for graduation.
The school also offers 2-year AAS degrees in computer drafting and design and information technology multimedia. The drafting program includes study of design and drafting, architectural drafting, engineering graphics, and basic design theory and methods. The multimedia program includes coursework in instructional design, 3D modeling, visual design theory, and animation. All programs culminate in the completion of a capstone project in the chosen field of study.
The School of drafting and design offers a 4-year BS degree program in digital entertainment and game design. The program includes four semesters of general education courses, followed by four semesters of core courses including introduction to gaming technology, physics of animation, game design process, and game interface design. The program requires completion of a game development team course that explores the roles and skills of each member of a game development team, and also participation in a capstone project that places each student on a development team to complete the task of actually designing a game.
ITT Tech does not offer any institutionally funded scholarships. Students are encouraged to apply for federally funded financial aid and local private or civic scholarships. The college does provide a Financial Aid Office to assist students in finding the best way to fund their educations.
The school encourages student activities with the goal of helping to develop individual initiative, group leadership and cooperation. The school helps provide students with the opportunity to participate in activities which relate to educational objectives, satisfy social needs, provide recreational opportunities and encourage cultural enrichment. Regular activities available to students include the Flag Football Annual Frost Bowl, LAN Parties, semi-annual Career Fairs, quarterly Open Houses, an Ambassadors Club, and student chapters of the Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society, the Society of Women Engineers, the American Design Drafting Association, the Electronics Technician Association, and the Entertainment Design Group.
