About Herzing College
Herzing College's Minneapolis Drafting School Campus is located in the northwest suburbs of the Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The city of Minneapolis hosts a variety of annual events including a cross-country ski race through the Twin Cities each February, a May Day Parade and Festival, a Summer festival known as the Minneapolis Aquatennial, several art festivals and fairs each August, and the Holidazzle Parade of floats and fairy tale characters presented five days a week from the end of November through the month of December. The city is a great place for outdoor enthusiasts, with plenty of bicycle, hiking, and ski trails, plus local lakes offering beaches, swimming, boating and fishing.
Herzing's School of Design offers an AAS degree and a Diploma in drafting and design technology. For the AAS degree, the average completion time for a student taking a full course load is five semesters. Required coursework for the degree includes AutoCAD, civil drafting, architectural drafting, drafting standards and conventions, mechanical and electrical drafting, structural drafting, 3D modeling, and two design and drafting project courses. Both general education and personal development courses are required for graduation as well. Conversely, the Diploma program was designed with working adults in mind, allowing students to maintain their current jobs during completion of the program. The program can be completed in only 16 months with a part-time student course load. The coursework consists of hands-on training, focusing on architectural drafting concepts and practices. Required courses include AutoCAD, residential construction drafting, commercial construction drafting, and 3D modeling. In addition, the School offers a College Plus program in drafting and design for students with either a bachelor's degree or eight years of related experience. The program covers a broad range of technical areas such as 3D, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, steel detailing, and residential drafting. It is a one-year program with required courses including AutoCAD, civil drafting, residential construction drafting, building mechanical and electrical systems, and a career development seminar.
Herzing¡¦s School of Design also offers an AAS degree in interior design. The average length of time for a student taking a full course load is five semesters. Students in this program gain knowledge of interior furnishing, materials, basic construction, lighting and color schemes. Instruction in the use of CAD and 3-D modeling techniques are also provided. Students then learn to apply this knowledge when developing customized interior solutions in residential and commercial applications. Required coursework includes drawing and presentation fundamentals, color and lighting concepts in design, furniture style and function, AutoCAD for interior design, commercial design, and residential design, 3D modeling for interior design, a design studio course, and a career internship. An interior design project course is also available as an elective. General education and personal development courses are required for graduation as well.
Herzing College supports academic achievement and offers a variety of scholarship opportunities, awards and an institutional grant to help students achieve their educational goals. A few of the scholarships available include the Herzing High School Merit Scholarship, the Henry G. Herzing Scholarship, the Adult Learner Scholarship, and the Academic Persistence Award.
Herzing College is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association. The College offers a Quality Guarantee, allowing all students to repeat any course previously passed at no tuition charge. This gives current students and graduates the opportunity to take a refresher course in any subject completed at any time. The College offers program courses year-round, allowing for faster completion of the program and faster entrance into the job market for graduates. Herzing also offers career services to students and graduates. Each Herzing College has an Career Services Department that is dedicated to preparing students with job-seeking skills, working with students to develop a polished resume, providing individual assistance during the job search process, working with area employers to develop job leads and interviews, and even assisting students with part-time employment while enrolled in classes at Herzing if needed.
