GSCC's Division of Applied Technology offers a one-year certificate program in Upholstery Technology. The purpose of the program is to offer skills that will help the student identify different types, styles and qualities of furnishings that will lead to employment in privately owned or industrial shops. Graduates learn to redesign, repair or replace fabrics, springs, webbing, frames, and other parts that are worn or damaged. Automobile upholstery technology is also available. Required courses include upholstery fundamentals and design, special topics in upholstery, and interior design. All other required courses are labs, offering hands-on experience and training. Required labs include upholstery design, decorative elements, and design interiors for furniture and auto, plus an auto upholstery design experimental lab.
The Division of Engineering Technology offers both certificate and degree programs in Drafting and Design Technology. The certificate can be completed in one year, featuring introductory coursework in computer aided drafting, plus fundamentals of drafting and design technology, blueprint reading, solids modeling, three levels of technical drawing, an independent studies course, and an elective of the student's choosing. The degree program can be completed within two years, and includes much of the same technical coursework plus general education courses, intermediate CAD work, and a course in technical illustration. Students then choose a technical specialty. The two available options are mechanical and architectural. The mechanical option includes courses in machine drafting and manufacturing processes. The architectural option includes courses in architectural drafting and basic surveying.
GSCC offers many institutionally funded scholarships to new and returning students. Some of the scholarships for which students many be eligible include academic, athletic, memorial and privately funded, faculty and staff, and scholarships from the GSCC Alumni Association. In order to be considered for all available scholarships, students simply complete one scholarship application form available through the college's Web site or from the College Scholarship Office on campus. In addition, students may apply to serve as a member of the GSCC LASER program, which offers college tuition to students in return for a specified number of hours of community service.
