About East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania

East Stroudsburg University is a four-year institution of higher learning offering associate's, bachelor's, and graduate degrees. The university is located in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania on a 213-acre campus. The university also owns Stony Acres, an off-campus recreation area for students with a lodge and a lake. The performing arts department at East Stroudsburg is very active and offers several performances each year. They have a concert choir, a cappella ensemble, pop/jazz singers, and a musical review that updates musicals. There are also several theater performances per year.

East Stroudsburg University is one of the 14 schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. It was founded in 1893 as a Normal School, designed to educate teachers. In 1927, the school became East Stroudsburg State Teachers College and in 1960, East Stroudsburg State College. The change came as the school added liberal arts and science curricula. It became a university in 1983.

The art department at East Stroudsburg University offers bachelor's degrees in art, art and design, and a minor in art. The degree in art and design prepares students for careers in graphic design, advertising, web design, commercial art, and animation. The university has five different state-of-the art studios for students to work and learn. Art and design students take courses in basic drawing, composition, painting, illustration, graphic design, advertising and communications graphics, sculpture, ceramics, art history, and 2-D and 3-D design.

Students interested in media and communications can earn a two-year, four-year, or graduate degree in media communication and technology. The program is designed to prepare students for all aspects of media and for a variety of careers in the media. Coursework focuses on digital media including graphics, photography, and audio, television, video, Web publishing, and web design.
