Located in the metropolis of Chattanooga, TN, Chattanooga State¡¦s Eastgate Campus offers high-tech learning along with loads of southern charm. The city is home to the Houston Museum of Decorative Arts, which has one of the world¡¦s finest collections of antique glass and ceramics, or tour the Hunter Museum of American Art, which exhibits works by the Hudson River School Painters, including Thomas Cole, as well as American Impressionist Childe Hassam, Robert Henri from the Ashcan School, and regional favorite Thomas Hart Benton. Chattanooga offers a number of art galleries, art cafes, and art/graphic supply stores.
Chattanooga State Technical Community College was founded in 1965. It was the state's first technical college and Southeast Tennessee's first public institution of higher education. The college offers two-year technical programs whose mission is to train technicians and technical workers for entry into the professional technical world.
Chattanooga State offers the AAS in Web design. The program is Web-based and includes coursework in Visual Basic, Java Programming, Web graphics, Principles of Web site design, building Web sites, Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, Scripting languages, and other courses in design and computer science, for a total of 24 credits. Students will need to spend approximately $200-$250 for basic professional equipment the first year. The program trains students for careers in advertising agencies, art services, graphic arts industries, and television.
The graphic design program focuses on print media. Students train for careers in graphic design firms and graphic arts services industries. Coursework includes design principles, typography, Web foundations, advertising, and the development of a portfolio.
Federal student loans, grants, and work-study are available to attend Chattanooga State for those who qualify. A number of scholarships are available as well. Prospective students and their parents should contact the financial aid office for more information, and to apply early. Students who live outside Tennessee but would like to enroll may qualify for in-state tuition fees if they are employed full time in the state. Students are provided academic, career, and personal counseling at no additional charge. Chattanooga State is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Many programs are accredited or approved by a national accrediting or approval body.
