About Bob Jones University

Bob Jones University is a four-year private Christian institution. It is the largest fundamentalist Christian university in the world with about 5000 students and is located in Greenville, South Carolina. Greenville is within driving distance of Charlotte, North Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina, and Atlanta, Georgia and has a population of approximately 56,000. The college has a large and renowned collection of Italian art at its Bob Jones University Museum and Gallery. Greenville has the Greenville County Museum of Art and the Greenville County Youth Orchestra. The Carolina Ballet Theater performs often in Greenville and the Centre Stage is a professional theater troupe performing in Greenville.

Bob Jones University was founded in 1927 by the Christian evangelist Bob Jones Sr. He believed that Christian students needed a college to guide and train them. His intention was to develop a school that would emphasize performing and visual arts and keep Christ at the center of all university practices and philosophies. The Greenville campus was built in 1946 and had 2,500 students enrolled by 1947.

The graphic design major at Bob Jones prepares students for careers in advertising design, illustration, publishing, studio art, and for future advanced study of design. Students learn about typography, graphic design, drawing, calligraphy, painting, photography, art history, and printmaking. Students also participate in an internship in their senior year. This allows for application of skills to a professional setting.

Students who are interested in a fashion career can major in apparel, textiles, and design. This degree prepares students for careers in the fashion industry including tailoring, apparel design, retail, and fashion consulting. Students take courses in apparel construction, sewing for interior design, textiles, pattern design, chemistry, drawing, and professional communications. The program also uses an internship for students to apply their skills and learn to work in a professional environment.

The interior design degree at Bob Jones teaches students residential and commercial interior design skills, art, and business techniques. Current trends in design are emphasized to keep students on top of the industry. Students take courses in design, drafting, professional practice, textiles, sewing, and a professional internship.

Students interested in a career in film and video can major in cinema and video production. Students are trained in all aspects of production including editing, directing, camera work, lighting, and audio through courses in photography, production, television, sound techniques, and screenwriting.

The financial aid office at Bob Jones helps students determine their tuition costs and how to finance their education. To begin the process, students must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students may qualify for federal and state grants, Bob Jones grants, or other grants or scholarships, which do not need to be paid back. Students may also find federal or private loans with the assistance of the financial aid office.

The Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools' Accreditation Commission accredited Bob Jones University in 2006.
