About Anderson University
Anderson University is a four year college with approximately 2000 students. Anderson is located in Anderson, South Carolina, and is affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Anderson has a population of around 25,000 and earned the title of All-American City in 2000. The city sits in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is a one hour drive from the Appalachian Mountains and a four hour drive from the coast. The economy of Anderson revolves around manufacturing, largely of automotive and metal products, plastics, and textiles. Anderson is home to several annual festivals including the Great Southeast Balloon Fest, held on Labor Day weekend. The Soiree is a gathering of artists selling their wares in the spring. An annual chili cook-off determines who will win the title of ¡§Anderson¡¦s Best Chili.¡¨
The art department at Anderson offers students a concentration in graphic design. The department focuses on technical training, expression of creativity, and professionalism. Students use visual and verbal design techniques to express information and ideas. The latest in technology is emphasized as an important aspect of graphic design. To fully prepare for working in the design industry, students must complete an internship along with their regular coursework.
Students may study for a BA in interior design through Anderson¡¦s School of Interior Design. The school emphasizes student centered learning with a strong foundation in professionalism within a liberal arts education. A concentration in interior design teaches students to develop technical skills, problem solving abilities, project management skills, environmental responsibility, and professional ethics. Students must complete 15 general education courses, 20 core courses, and 5 art foundation courses. Students have the option to join Anderson University¡¦s chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers to help develop relationships and experiences with design professionals.
Part of Anderson University¡¦s mission is to provide an affordable education. More than 90% of Anderson students receive some form of financial aid. The school prides itself on being one of the most affordable independent colleges in South Carolina. All required forms must be completed by July 1 for consideration, however, most awards are given an a first come, first served basis. Students are encouraged to completed paperwork as soon as possible.
Anderson is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The University has been recognized several times by the Princeton Review as one of the best schools in the southeast. It is also in the Top Tier of Southern Comprehensive Universities by U.S. News and World Report.
