Miami International University of Art and Design is one of The Art Institutes. The campus is located in the heart of Miami, Florida's Arts and Entertainment District. Local attractions include South Beach, the Miami Design District, Coconut Grove, and the Miami Seaquarium. The warm climate allows for year-round outdoor activities such as bike riding, fishing, swimming, and tennis at nearby parks and beaches.
Miami International University offers two-year AA degrees in accessory design or fashion design, a four-year BA in advertising, and four-year BFA degrees in audio production, computer animation, fashion design, film and video production, graphic design, interior sesign, photography, visual and entertainment arts, visual effects and motion graphics, and Web design and interactive media. All two-year programs include creation of a student portfolio of work. Four-year programs typically include an industry internship as well as the student portfolio. In addition to undergraduate degrees, the school offers MFA degrees in visual arts, interior design, graphic design, film, and computer animation. Graduate programs are typically completed in six quarters, or two years, and must include a Master's thesis. Some of the graduate programs are available online.
The Art Institutes awards scholarships by degree program based on portfolio submissions. Available scholarships include the Art Institutes Scholarship Competition, Vocational Industrial Clubs of America Skills USA Championship, National Art Honor Society Scholarship, Scholastics Arts Competition, and Technology Student Association Competition. Miami International University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award Associate of Arts, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Master of Fine Arts degrees. The campus main building houses technologically advanced computer labs, fully equipped studios, a student lounge and cafeteria, an 800 square foot Main Gallery, and a Library with over 23,000 volumes and subscriptions to more than two hundred periodicals specific to the academic programs offered. The Office of Student Affairs sponsors a variety of events including intramural sports, dances, parties, and off-campus trips, planned to encourage students to find shared interests with a wide variety of people and upgrade the university experience.
