Abilene Christian University is located in Abilene, Texas, home to 120,000 friendly people, three private universities, six public universities and community colleges and Dyess Air Force Base. Abilene is located near the center of Texas just 150 miles west of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. As a city unto itself, Abilene students can find horseback riding, golf, tennis, billiards, and bowling all within a few minutes from the ACU campus.
ACU is affiliated with the Churches of Christ, and the university welcomes all students who value a strong Christian environment. Students are required to attend daily chapel and Bible courses, which contribute to the openly acknowledged atmosphere within this campus. All faculty, staff, administrators and members of the Board of Trustees are Christians, so you can expect strong Christian leadership at this school as well.
The school of art and design at ACU offers an AA in pre-architecture, a BS in interior design that is CIDA and FIDER accredited, a BFA in graphic design with 2D and 3D studio, a BA in advertising graphic design, a BA in art and a BA in art education. Students seeking the BFA in art must complete 131 hours including six hours of general electives that are arranged to ensure at least 33 advanced hours. Electives may include deficiency requirements in science and foreign language. The BA in advertising graphic design combines training in art with that of journalism and mass communication. This degree is designed for the student who wishes to enter newspaper, magazine or other advertising design fields.
The advantage to studying art and design at ACU includes the fact that all fulltime instructors hold terminal degrees in their area of specialty and they hold a strong dedication to teaching. Students experience low student-to-teach ratios in studio classes within a curriculum that places emphasis on art fundamentals and professional applications.
ACU provides financial aid outside the Federal and state level. Their scholarships cover athletics as well as academic merit possibilities, with many funds that arrive from Churches of Christ ministries. This university also supports work-study programs, grants, and loan programs. Finally, the school provides an active atmosphere for Christian students to participate in many on- and off-campus activities.
