While most design contests are geared towards working professionals or those in college, the Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future Competition is for those between the ages of 13-18.

Perhaps someone in your family or a friend’s family has an up and coming artist in their house. If so, this contest is just for them.

What the Contest Is About
Sister Cities International has served as a showcase for young artists and designers for over 20 years.

This year’s theme, Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future, seeks entries that illustrate how individuals, communities and sister cities can help improve the environment.

The sponsor states:

“Your artwork may highlight a problem, issue, or solution important to you, your community, or the world at-large.”

What to Submit
recycle-bin-symbolThere are specific rules and guidelines concerning submitted entries. According to the contest site some of them are:

“Only two-dimensional artwork, no larger than 24″ x 30″ (60cm x 75cm), including matting is accepted. Watercolor, oils, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal, photography, two-dimensional mixed media, as well as computer generated art, are all acceptable media.

* Entries that use copyrighted or trademarked images will not be accepted.
* Entries must not be plagiarized, stolen, or copied from any other source.
* Entries from previous years will not be accepted.
* Entries must not defame or invade the rights of any person, living or ….dead.
* Entries not adhering to these guidelines will not be considered.
* Entries originating from a “sister cities” are eligible for this contest.
* Only artists from the ages of 13-18 are eligible for this contest

Prizes
Ten finalists will be selected from all entries. These final entries will be displayed at the 2011 Youth Conference in Eugene and/or continue on a traveling exposition to other sister city locales.

One national winner and one international winner will be selected from the finalists. Each winner will receive:

“…a complimentary registration for the 2011 Youth Leadership Conference in Eugene, OR, along with $1,000 toward airfare to the conference or as a cash prize.”

If you wish to have your entry returned to you, there is a $20 processing and shipping fee, however, there are no entry fees for this competition. This contest will end on April 29, 2011.

Life Just Is - Poster Design Competition

Life Just Is, an independent feature film that completed shooting this November and is now in post production. The film is about four recent university student graduates and their struggles to adapt to the “real world.”

The Life Just Is - Poster Design Competition is seeking entries from design students and college graduates that can interpret the spirit of the film and be used as a vehicle to promote it.

Contest Details
In order to participate in this contest you must fill out a completed entry form and send it to postercompetition[at]lifejustisfilm.com.

After you have been approved you will be notified by email and will be provided a link to specific marketing images, information about the film, and other pertinent details for use in the creation of your poster design.

The poster designs will be available on the film’s Facebook page where individuals may vote for their favorite poster. The top three posters from the highest vote counts plus a top three list by a panel of judges will be used to select the winner.

There are no cash awards for this contest, however the winning entry will be used “…for marketing the film and potentially for the DVD cover. The [artist] will be credited for their design.”

For those who want to beef up their resume/CV this is a great opportunity to add more credentials to your list of accomplishments.

Are you a part of a university or science community team or a graphic designer that has an eye on the future as far as renewable energy solutions? If you can answer “yes” to any of these questions, the International SunSat Design Competition may be for you.

Design a Satellite
SunSat is an international competition that is seeking designs for the next generation of satellites that will be able to collect energy in space and transmit it to Earth for electricity production.

This competition is also an exercise to investigate the benefits and possible limitations of this sort of technology.

The sponsors state:

“Winning designs will be high-impact digital art, supported by credible science, engineering and business plans.

“[They will] best promote media understanding and public acceptance of a path forward in using space satellites to deliver energy on-demand to any and all places on earth.”

Those who are in graphic design may need to contact the SunSat sponsors in order to get guidance and mentoring on the “hard science” and feasibility of their concepts. All submissions must be registered at the official website to enter the contest.

The contest administrators will alert entrants about the status of their submissions within seven working days.

Prizes
The hope of the contest sponsors is to raise $100,000 in prize money for the winners of this event. The money will go to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for research project purposes.

Please note that no entries will be accepted unless all pertinent required information is provided according to the registration guidelines.

Yes, that was an incredibly bad pun but as they say, it was too good to pass up. Aside from the pun, there is a graphic design competition that may appeal to your artistic senses; the Gnome T-shirt Design Contest.

The Gnome Foundation is a non-profit organization that is responsible for GNOME, a computing platform for use in the development of free software applications.

The sponsors (zazzle.com) of the GNOME T-shirt contest want your design ideas for a t-shirt that will celebrate the release of GNOME 3.0, (GNU Network Object Model Environment).

You may only submit one entry to this contest. Be sure to visit zazzle.com to see the different t-shirt styles and colors in order to gauge how you design will look on the final product.

Postcards are one of the preferred methods of communication by vacationers and globetrotters to friends and loved ones. It’s a great way to send a photo with a personal message.

The words “wish you were here” is sometimes tagged on to the end of these greetings and has become somewhat of a cliché in popular culture for those on the go.

The Jura Wish You Were Here Photography Competition is about images from around the world and what makes them so inspiring to the photographers.

Send in an image that depicts a special and meaningful place you have visited.

The contest sponsors state:

“…create a postcard of a place which inspired you. Use our postcard template to upload an image and insert your story.”

Submitted images will be voted upon by members of the Jura website. Final winners are selected by the contest jury.

How to Submit Your Photos
There are three steps in entering this contest:

Panasonic Lumix Award Competition 2011

People in different cultures greet each other in unique ways. The Chinese ask if you have eaten yet. In Iceland they say “happy.” But in other countries sometimes a hello is connected with “So what do you do?”

The Panasonic Lumix Award Competition asks this very question, but with a slight twist. It wants to see photographs which depict what people do for a living instead of just a verbal answer.

The contest sponsor states:

“Panasonic wants to see what extraordinary jobs and professions can be found and captured on camera.

“Night or day, it doesn’t matter where you are in the world or what time it is: there’s always somebody on the job.
