October-2009, competitions 2009, deadlines, digital art, graphic design, illustration, web design

15 December 2009

mini-car-line
On August 26, 1959 a small little car was imagined and designed in the mind of its inventor, Alec Issigonis. The car is known worldwide, has been featured in movies, and its name — the Mini Cooper.

Now fifty years later minispace.com, dedicated to all things about the “creative use of space” and acting as a gathering place for creative people and designers, is announcing its open call for the MINI Space Design Competition.

……………………………………………And what is the theme? The topic of “50“.

What to Submitt

  • Content should be created for use as a background image for the minispace.com website and as a stand-alone image
  • Designs can incorporate any still media such as photos, illustrations, graphics, or digital content as long as the rights are owned by the designer of the piece
  • The design may include MINI elements, but is not required. Including MINI material will not increase your chances of winning
  • Do not use the MINI car logo in your design
  • Entries should be 1280 x 800 in dimension and in JPG format
  • Up to 9 entries may be uploaded to the contest site

.

The contest sponsors state:
.
“This is all about creative use of space, and since your space is your computer background, we want you to think creatively, but also logically, about using it. Keep in mind that the left side of each uploaded background will always be covered up by MINI Space content. Think about how your design can work with the format of the site and fit with the content that is already there.”

Although the contest takes its inspiration for the contest from the 50th anniversary of the MINI, it isn’t necessary to include the Mini Cooper or MINI brand elements in your design.

50The theme, remember, is “50.”

shed-in-the-countryAll You Wanted to Know About Sheds
Did you know that there are people deeply interested in sheds and how to build them?

Did you know that there are different types of sheds such as garden sheds, tool sheds, firewood sheds, and storage sheds?

And did you know that sheds can be big, small, made of metal, vinyl or wood? And lastly, did you know there is a Shed Design Competition for 2009?

The Contest
The folks at the secrets-of-shed-building.com website are dedicated to the construction, admiration, and knowledge of all things pertaining to sheds. This year’s contest is offering an Apple Ipod Nano mp3 player to the winner.

shed-illustrationThe Rules
You pretend you are starting your own business (or perhaps you already have) and you need a shed to store your items or use it as a small studio or work area.

What would it look like? What sorts of features would it have, and how would it fit your needs?

That’s where your ideas about your shed come in.

Would it be eco-friendly? How large would it be and what sorts of amenities would be available? After you have written a description of your “dream-shed,” the next thing to do is to submit a drawing of your idea.

Entries will be judged upon aesthetic value of the illustration, creativity, and practicality of the design. For some tips on what the contest sponsor is looking for, click here.

How the Winner Is Chosen
The finalists are selected from the top five submissions that receive the most votes on the website. From these a winner will be chosen. The winner will be notified through email.

For a complete listing of the rules, click here. The contest deadline for entries is October 31, 2009.
