.

lg-competitionLG Mobile Phones , Autodesk , and crowdSpring are partnering up to announce a new contest for all designers. The Design the Future Competition is calling for submissions that predict the future of personal mobile communication, and where it may be heading.

What will be the wave of the future? Perhaps we’ll see cell phones the size of postage stamps. It could be possible that personal mobile communications devices may be linked to our brain waves. Who knows? Whatever you can imagine is fair game. LG wants your ideas.

future-cell-phoneLG Mobile Phones is not looking for a long list of technical specifications or engineering blueprints for this contest. What it is seeking are ideas on how mobile phones may work and look like within the next decade.

The concept must be supported by scenario illustrations on how the phone would be used by consumers. The LG logo must be incorporated into the design.

According to the official contest site, the following guidelines are used for judging entries:

Need Fulfillment / Market Potential (40% weight): How well does the phone address general consumer needs / frustrations?

Creativity / Originality / Innovation (30% weight): Is the idea / design unique? Does the concept convey WOW or game-changing characteristics?

Feasibility (20% weight): Can this idea / product be realistically implemented with current or near-future technology?

Polish and Appeal (10% weight): Is the idea easy to understand and aesthetically appealing? Does it have images illustrating usage scenarios?

U.S. citizens, or green card holders 18 years of age or older are eligible for this competition. Autodesk is providing a free 15-day trial of SketchBook Pro to contest participants to render and design their projects.

Prizes:

Award 1: $20,000

Jimmy Deck is a new company that is asking graphic designers to submit artwork for new snowboard decal designs. The average cost of a new snowboard can range anywhere from $99 to $600 or more.

Jimmy Deck says you can save all that cash by just buying a new decal to apply to your old trusty board. That’s sound logic that is hard to argue with.

An independent judging panel will base their decisions on the design’s imagination, creativity, artistic content, and originality. All decisions are final. Contestant winners will be notified by email. The contest is open to everyone 18 years or older.

The prizes offered for the top five winners will be in the form of a royalty for every 50 units sold. Prize payout is 500 units maximum.

First Prize - $5 from each decal sold with their design
Second Prize - $4 from every decal sold from their design
Third Prize - $3 from every decal sold from their design
Forth Prize - $2 from every decal sold from their design
Fifth Prize - $1 from every decal sold from their design

For the official contest rules, click here. The deadline for the competition is May 16, 2009. Other design artwork contests will be held throughout the year so check the jimmydeck.com site often.
