This year, One Show provides industry ringside seats for Mexican wrestler themed extravaganza.
On May 9, the One Show Interactive awards, the industry’s most prestigious awards competition, will become more interactive than ever as they honor the year’s best digital media and web design. In celebration of the fascinating world of Luchadores, the striking and mysterious masked wrestlers of Mexico, they will install a regulation-sized wrestling ring right in the middle of New York City’s Nokia Theatre.
“Bloody fights, killer instincts, masochistic contenders dressed in outrageous outfits— isn’t this a typical day at the office for the industry’s interactive leaders?” laughs Kevin Swanepoel, President of The One Club. “Seriously, this year’s theme is a literal interpretation of the battles creatives wage everyday—against themselves, the industry, the zeitgeist, you name it. You can’t get any more interactive than putting a small agency in the ring with a big industry and letting them duke it out. We’ve been doing just that with One Show Interactive for eleven years now, and let me tell you, the results can be very surprising.”

Electrolux Design Lab 2008 invites industrial design students around the world to create tomorrow’s home appliances for the Internet generation, deadline May 30.
Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances and appliances for professional use, launches the 6th edition of its annual design competition via www.ElectroluxDesignLab.com and will select a limited number of entries to compete in Zurich at the international finals October 8 & 9, 2008.
The Internet generation comprises brand-conscious, busy young professionals between 25-35 who are independent, concerned about the environment, and whose lives are intertwined with technology and online social networks.
This year’s submissions should be for 2-3 years into the future and address food storage, cooking, and/or washing. “We are looking for daring ideas and solutions,” says Henrik Otto, Head of Global Design at Electrolux. “Entries should reflect the iGeneration’s core interests and concerns like mobility, convenience, time, materials, personalization, entertaining, technology, and sustainability.”
About Design LabSince 2003, thousands of design students have participated in the Electrolux Design Lab competition, which culminates in a different city every year at an international press event. Previous venues include Paris, Barcelona, Stockholm, New York, and Budapest.
Last year’s competition “Green designs for 2020” was won by Levente Szabó from Moholy-Nagy University of Art & Design, Hungary, with E-wash, a compact washing machine that uses soap nuts instead of detergent.
The Design Lab 2008 has a First Prize of 5,000 Euro and a six-month internship at one of Electrolux’s global design centers. The second prize is 3,000 Euro and third prize 2,000 Euro. An international jury will judge the entries based on intuitive design, innovation, and consumer insight.
Entries must be submitted by May 30, 2008 via the website. A limited number of finalists will be chosen by the end of June and invited to Zurich to make a final presentation to the jury on October 8 & 9 where the winner will be announced and the prizes awarded.
For more information about the competition, high-resolution photos of previous finalists and their concepts, broadcast quality b-roll, and to watch videos from last year’s competition on Design Lab TV, visit www.ElectroluxDesignLab.com.

Throughout the world climate change is affecting the conditions of nature and local weather. Most people experience these changes as an imbalance between nature and the human environment. This IFLA student competition, with the theme, “TRANSFORMING WITH WATER, THE WAY TO PARADISE?” seeks to stimulate the discussion about the specific contribution of landscape and urban planning and design to realize a new balance between nature and the human environment.
You are invited to name the (local, regional) problem in nature or the human environment that you are most intrigued with, and to link the problem to a specific site/region. You are asked to invent a new, innovating and inspirational solution for the problem and site. Your ideas should include one or more of the following concepts: utopia, autarchy, paradise, sustainability, self-sufficiency. You will also present plans and designs that reflect your ideas. You are free to use a variety of graphic methods to present your ideas. Part of the challenge is to graphically communicate your work as effectively as possible. Scales are free. You are to add a brief (max.350 words) written summary of the project, including project context, ideas and issues addressed and main features.

AUFF is a forum where artists can thrive outside the mainstream arena. Creative artists who continuously break the boundaries of film, video, art and music are promoted through AUFF, so they too may have a voice in a market which is typically saturated with commercial entertainment designed to satisfy the audience’s expectations.
Much more than the traditional stuffy film festival, AUFF will showcase short and feature films, art, live music and plenty of late night parties. Special events during AUFF include the Animation Attack! with two nights of animated shorts, demonstrations & discussions. Entry Deadline: 1 May 2008 (postmarked date). Visit the site to learn more.
