FindYourArtSchool.com announced the launch of an innovative and community-driven online art competition. The competition is taking place at: www.findyourartschool.com/contest/

The art contest will allow submissions through June 15, 2008, and is giving away $3,500 in prizes. The online art competition is targeted to younger adults ages 16 - 35, and uses community-based voting to help determine the winner.

“The contest is founded on democratic principles. The more votes and the higher the score of those votes will directly increase the probability of an artist being a finalist,” stated Elliott Easterling, chief judge of the competition. Users can also promote artists they like through social bookmarking services like Digg and reddit.

Safety Scholars Video Contest

According to the National Institutes of Health, young drivers increase their chance of a car accident when they drive with friends or use cell phones at the wheel. The more aware you are of such driving risks, the more likely you are to avoid them. How will your Safety Scholars video address such hazards?

It’s your turn to take the director’s chair. Make a short video (25 or 55 seconds) related to safe driving. Enter it in Bridgestone’s Safety Scholars Competition and your video may be aired as a commercial for Bridgestone Firestone. The three top filmmakers also will each win a $5,000 college scholarship and the ten finalists win a new set of tires.

Deadline is no later than 11:59 PM Eastern Time on 24 June 2008. Visit the site to learn more.

30 June 2008

Illustrators of the future contestIn 1988, Mr. l. Ron Hubbard’s vision inspired a contest for new and aspiring illustrators seeking to become speculative fiction artists. The list of judges for the illustrators’ contest is no less impressive than that of the writers’ contest and represents a virtual who’s who of the field including Frank Frazetta, Vincent DiFate, Bob Eggleton, Stephen Hickman and Stephen Youll.

The Writers of the Future and Illustrators of the Future Contests are international in scope and short stories from the yearly winners selected from around the world are published in the annual Writers of the Future anthology. Each quarter, winners receive money from a pool of $1,500, and annually those winners compete for $5,000 additional prize money. The Contest is open to entrants from all nations. (However, entrants should provide themselves with some means for written communication in English.) All themes of science fiction and fantasy illustrations are welcome: every entry is judged on its own merits only. No entry fee is required and all rights in the entry remain the property of the artist.

The contest runs four times per year, and the next deadline is 30 June 2008. Visit the site to learn more!
