Wiley Design Challenge, a partnership between Wiley and SmugMug.com, is celebrating the holiday season with the “Holiday Card Showdown,” the latest competition in a series of design contests. Graphic designers at all levels are invited to enter their holiday card designs in this wintry battle royale from now through December 31, 2008.
Exercise your creativity and submit a holiday card design for a chance to win by attracting the most “thumbs up” clicks and 5-star comments. Voters don’t have to sign up to vote and comment. Winners will be announced within 2 weeks of the end date.
Winners of the Holiday Card Showdown will be awarded the following prizes:
- Grand Prize: $400, a free SmugMug Pro account for two years, and a $200 gift certificate to SmugMug. Bragging rights included.
- First Prize: $200 worth of Wiley books - dive into our library and go nuts - plus free SmugMug membership for 1 year.

The Creative Review Annual brings together the year’s best work in visual communication: Will you be in it? The Annual will showcase the finest creative work produced worldwide during 2008. The Annual aims to be the definitive guide to the year in visual communication, including Advertising, Graphic Design, Digital Media, Illustration and Music Video. As the only title to cover all these areas and with more than 25 years’ experience, Creative Review has allied its skills and knowledge with that of leading industry figures to select the most significant work of 2008.

This is Foldee’s third vector-art greeting card contest, and this time, they’re looking for the most romantic greeting card idea, related to games. And by games, they don’t just mean video-games, but ALL GAMES such from snooker to Cluedo and chess.
Come up with the wittiest/cheekiest/horniest card, and let the public decide who should get their hands on all this moolah. First prize is $1000 USD, second prize is $600 USD and third prize is $400 USD. They also have two $200 USD consolation prizes.
Only flat vector art is accepted for this contest. This means no gradients, rasters or fancy effects like filters and drop shadows. Foldee provides a template for the card. Foldee often adds suggestions and consultations to entries to make the best, and they might ask you to revise your designs before they accept them.

The Richard Goodman Strategic Planning Award recognizes distinction in the practice of strategy. Building on the broader purpose of the Association of Strategic Planning (ASP) to enable individuals and organizations to succeed through strategic thinking, planning and action, the purpose of the award is:
- To foster continuing excellence in strategic planning
- To stimulate innovation in the strategic planning process
- To honor organizations at the leading edge of strategic practice
Winners will be recognized for the Award in each of the following:
- Large for-profit or division of large-for profit corporation
- Small to mid-sized for-profit corporation
- Government, non-profit or academic organization
A committee of judges will be drawn from corporate and university-based specialists in strategy and management. These judges will review all entries and select finalists. Organizations that wish to be considered for the Award must complete an application and submit it to ASP no later than 31 December 2008. Visit the site to learn more.

ID is calling for entries for their 2009 Annual Design Review. Consumer products, equipment, and furniture must have been released to the market during the 2008 calendar year. Graphic, interactive, and packaging designs must have been published or distributed within this period. Environmental submissions must have been realized during this period. Concepts must have been completed during this period. Student work must be the result of a classroom/academic assignment and must have been completed during the 2007-2008 academic year. Students must include a photocopy of an official student I.D. from that year. Any submission that does not meet these criteria will be disqualified.
Entry fee is $100 for each submission, except in the Student Work category. For the Student Work category, the fee is $25 for each submission. Late entries (postmarked after December 1, 2008) must include a $25 late fee ($15 late fee for student entries). Entries postmarked after December 15, 2008, will be accepted only on a case-by-case basis. There is a $10 fee for all returned checks or declined credit cards. Visit the site to learn more.
