The APA @ 25 National Photo Competition, Silver to Pixels, provides a great opportunity to showcase the work of talented photographers from across the country. It is a celebration of photography and recognition of the extraordinary transitions in image making processes over the course of APA’s 25 years. The competition goals are to encourage and recognize outstanding work that reflects personal vision as well as technical excellence; to increase market opportunities through vigorous post-competition promotion, and to educate and inspire. In keeping with the APA brand, photographers are encouraged to submit work that reflects forethought and planning, is message driven, (away from generic stock-type images) and without a doubt exemplifies technical excellence.

Budding fashion designers should drum up their stylish flair and create unique designs to celebrate the second Chester fashion week in the UK. Competitors can win a professional photo shoot with international photographer Chris Morris. The competitions are open to anyone under 25 with less than two years in design industry.The fashion brief is to design an outfit for male or female with the color, texture and shape reflecting a garden theme.

Candidates entering the fashion photography competition should submit three pieces of fashion photography on any theme, which can be from the same range or a range of different shoots. They should be submitted as A3 hard copies and presented to a professional standard.

The deadline for submitting photography is Monday, 10 September and fashion designs Monday, 17 September. Both should be sent to Chester Fashion, 29 Grosvenor Street, Chester, CH1 2DD.

Avid fashion designers and artists are invited to submit entries to the 2007 Villa Maria Cult-Couture Awards. Garments entered for the awards should demonstrate a unique New Zealand interpretation and explore the limits of haute couture and artistry. Villa Maria encourages originality and innovation from designers, this year’s event has been given a stylish, eye-catching new look.

There is $15,000 in prize money to be won in seven categories, including: Recycled Revolution, Formally Yours, Obviously Organic, Flight of Fantasy, Matrimonial Bliss and On the Streets, plus a new award to recognise creative excellence from Manukau designers.

Mumedi (Mexican Museum of Design) calls designers, students, teachers, professionals and anyone interested in the subject (over 18 years of age), to participate in this International Poster Contest. Theme is “To Death with a Smile” to promote the exercise of good design, to stimulate creativity, so they might see the diversity and language richness in different cultures around the world.

Lots of prizes, and the best entries will be exhibited at the Mexican Museum of Design from October 2007 to February 2008 in the Downtown Historic Center of Mexico City. Deadline for entries is 14 September 2007. Visit the site to learn all the details.

The Rosicrucian Order is replacing the lawn areas at Rosicrucian Park, in San Jose, with California Native Plants and they invite you to participate. They are looking for a brilliant landscape design that complements their Egyptian architecture and gardens, using California native plants that require little to no water once they reach maturity.

There will be two 1st place prizes of $2,500, one prize for each area. Entrants who submit designs for both areas are eligible to win both 1st place prizes for a total of $5,000. Submission deadline - 15 September 2007. You can do it - especially if you know anything about Xeriscaping.
