SBIC (Sustainable Buildings Industry Council) is proud to announce the 2007 Beyond Greenâ„¢ High Performance Building Awards. This unique program recognizes the initiatives that shape, inform and catalyze the high-performance building market, as well as the real-world application of high performance design and construction practices. Award winners will be invited to present their projects at the National Building Museum in Washington D.C. The program will be held on 16 January 2008 in conjunction with a U.S. Department of Energy sponsored lecture series.

Custom home builders, remodeling contractors, architects, developers, planners, kitchen and bath specialists, and other industry professionals are invited to enter custom homes completed after 1 January 2003. Only true custom homes, that is, homes designed and built for a specific client and a specific site, are eligible. Spec houses, luxury production houses, show homes, and houses built from stock or semi-custom plans are not eligible. Also, houses that have previously won a CUSTOM HOME Design Award are not eligible.

The Miami Underground Film Festival was created to give the independent filmmaker a forum to screen their work. We put an emphasis on undiscovered or neglected talent from around the world. We hope to grow throughout the years and serve as a launching pad for future independent filmmakers in the spirit of Cassavetes, Rodriguez, Meyer and Jarmusch.

This new film festival, which has already been very active in sponsoring screenings and producing a film about early-20th-century novelist Zora Neale Hurston (author of Oprah-approved Their Eyes Were Watching God), is seeking narrative films, documentaries, features, and shorts from independent filmmakers everywhere for the festival on 1-3 February 2008.

Kraft Singles is giving grilled cheese lovers the chance to share their happy moments with the Kraft Singles “Have A Happy Sandwich� video contest launching on MySpace.

One winner will receive $50,000 and the chance to see his or her video brought to life as a national commercial. This contest invites people to create their own 10- to 15-second interpretation of a Kraft Singles “Have A Happy Sandwich� commercial. Participants are encouraged to use their favorite creative mediums, such as illustration, video, animation, music and comedy.

The “Pricey Ink Stinks” contest invites entrants to put an end to the pain of expensive ink cartridges by submitting clever ideas for repurposing old printers. The most creative entry will earn the winner their choice of $1000 cash or a $1000 scholarship.

The inspiration for the campaign came from the cost of Kodak’s EASYSHARE AiO replacement ink cartridges, priced at less than half of most competitors at $14.99 MSRP for color and $9.99 MSRP for black. Ooprint, your online printer, is proud to announce its first ever Holiday Greeting Card Design Competition. The idea is to create a greeting card with the theme Happy New Year 2008 or Happy Holidays that will be offered for sale online on the Ooprint websites. All submissions which are selected by our artistic director & team will be put online for sale by Ooprint.

The Society for Photographic Education (SPE) will be hosting its 2008 National Conference in Denver, CO, 13-16 March 2008. The organization is also offering scholarships to it student members and encouranging young photographers to be a part of next year’s annual event. Eleven SPE Student Awards will include a one-year membership to SPE, admission to the conference and a $500 travel stipend. Students may include application fees with their entry—$50 for SPE membership—to join and thus be eligible for an award. These include the SPE Student Awards, the Jeannie Pearce Award (focus is on digital technology), and The Freestyle Crystal Apple Award for Outstanding Achievement in Black and White Photography.
