Project 2008: Interplay

This is the second annual Cleveland Design Competition, entitled, “Project 2008: Interplay.” This is an open, anonymous, single-stage, ideas competition founded as a tool for generating ideas around under-utilized sites and showcasing the talent of emerging designers on Cleveland’s built and unbuilt environment. Through the generous and sustained support from competition partners and sponsors, the 2008 Cleveland Design Competition hopes to build on the excitement generated from last year’s challenge; becoming an increasingly useful tool for implementing ideas for these sites and others like them.

Registration deadline is 7 November 2008. All interested parties, including multi-disciplinary teams, are invited to enter unless specifically excluded. Entrants may submit as an individual or as a member of a team. Visit the site to obtain maps, details, brief.

Tricky Women Animation Film Competition

Tricky Women Animation Film CompetitionTricky Women is the first and only festival of animated film that is dedicated exclusively to animation by women. Since 2007 it has been held annually in Vienna each March. The festival offers an international competition of animated short films realised by female artists and produced in 2007 or 2008. Each filmmaker, producer or distributor may submit as many films as they like. Each film submitted must be accompanied by an entry form and sent on a separate tape or reel. No films entered in prior Tricky Women Festivals shall be admitted.

Electrolux Design Lab Forum on Design & Environment

On November 27 in Paris (15.30-16.30 CET), a panel of internationally renowned experts from the environmental, design, and technology communities, are speaking at the International Forum on Design and the Environment presented by Electrolux Design Lab 2007. The Forum aims to raise awareness about climate change and sustainable design.

The European Union has embarked on a plan to cut down its energy consumption by 20% by 2020 - and the use of household appliances has a key role to play in achieving this goal, which is why Electrolux is hosting this global event. All four experts have a different background and will explain what they believe is key to tackle climate change…

28th Annual College Photography Contest

NikonPresented by Photographer’s Forum Magazine and Nikon, this competition has awarded over $200,000 cash prizes since 1980, its first year. This time around, Photographer’s Forum is presenting two ways to enter, by either uploading your images online via the official website, or by sending prints or slides along with a traditional entry form. Winning Photos will also be published in the magazine’s May 2008 issue. All finalists will be published in The Best of College Photography Annual 2008 as well.

Jardins de Metis Contest

The International Garden Festival is preparing its ninth edition and is issuing a call for entries to select designers who will be invited to create temporary gardens for the 2008 Festival. This call for entries is open to all landscape architects, architects, artists and designers from Canada and abroad. The deadline for submission of entries is Monday, 30 November 2007. DDR&E PrizeThe DDR&E Prize is the Department of Defense’s Program that promotes the use of inventive and novel approaches to solve problems of U.S. military interest. The Department seeks the ideas of traditional and non-traditional performers from the public, academia, the commercial sector, alike.

This prize program draws upon innovation from a broad range of sources to provide superior technical solutions for the individual energy needs of Soldiers, Marines, Airmen and Sailors in the field. They seek a wearable power system that lasts four days and reduces the weight of the battery load typically carried by those in the field.
