Lark Books Wants Jewelry

Lark BooksLark Books seeks images to feature in the gallery section of an upcoming how-to publication, The Art of Jewelry: Plastic & Resin, scheduled for release in Fall 2008. All jewelry forms - rings, bracelets, earrings, brooches, necklaces, and others - will be considered. Diverse design styles and techniques - such as laminating, cold connecting, carving, constructing, thermoforming, molding, inlaying, and textile techniques - are desired. Materials can include commercial acrylic sheet and block, plastic resin, manufactured plastic forms, post-consumer or other re-purposed plastics, and more. Fabricated metal jewelry with plastic and/or resin as a major component are also welcome.

They accept high-quality transparencies, slides, and digital images. No entry fee is required. Submissions must be postmarked by 13 August 2007. Visit the site for guidelines.

World Focus Photography Competition

PDN and National Geographic Traveler present World in Focus 2007: The Ultimate Travel Photography Contests. The deadline is Aug. 22, with a late deadline of Sept. 7 available for an extra $10.

1st Prize is a choice of 11-day trip for two to Arctic Norway OR 10-day trip for two to the Galapagos Islands sponsored by Lindblad Expeditions. 2nd Prize is a 7-day Photography Workshop for one in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, sponsored by Santa Fe Workshops. 3rd Prize is a 6-day cruise for two on a Maine Windjammer Schooner, sponsored by the Schooners American Eagle and Heritage.

12th International Bicycle Design Competition

The International Bicycle Design Competition (IBDC) is sponsored by the Department of Industrial Technology, Ministry of Economic Affairs, R.O.C. (DOIT, MOEA) and managed and produced by the Cycling & Health Tech Industry R&D Center (CHC).

The competition started in 1996 to promote bicycle product design worldwide by uniting different design concepts and design cultures. Moreover, the hope is to introduce a way of life that incorporates bicycling, and make a contribution to improve environmental conditions and human health. This is the ONLY worldwide bicycle design competition!

International Festival of Erotic AnimationThe FIAE 2007 - International Festival of Erotic Animation will be held between the 6th and 8th of November 2007, at the Movies Odeon BR, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

FIAE 2007 aims to contribute to the discovery and revealing of new films and new directors, within the universe of erotic animation, in Brazil and abroad.

The festival intends to stimulate the public exhibition of animations that are neither distributed nor exhibited within Brazil traditional circuits. The FIAE will be dedicated to the feature and short films of animation. Sex, Love and Erotica, will be the key themes of the streamed international and national videos exhibited at the FIAE 2007. Otaku Call for EntriesOtaku University Inc, the nation’s first anime related educational conference, is calling for film makers and directors, original artists, up and coming bands, and creative fashion designers to compete in their main events as well as performers for a non-competitive festival.

Otaku University Inc. is an educational conference based in the East Valley area of Phoenix, Arizona. Otaku University Inc.’s goal is to help prepare attendees for college and careers in the entertainment industry. Otaku University is not an anime convention nor is it an actual university. The conference is a three day event scheduled to run from 28-30 September 2007.

Poster Needed for Boston Film Festival

The Boston Film Festival announced today a new competition for artists to design the 2007 poster that will be placed at theaters and throughout New England. The winning artist will receive a $500 cash prize along with a VIP pass to the 23rd Boston Film Festival on 14-21 September. Some of Boston’s finest restaurants have donated gift certificates as part of the award package including: Legal Seafoods, 33 Restaurant, Strega, Bonfire, Douzo and City Bar at the Lenox Hotel.

Creative Director John Michael Williams said “the competition affords artists of all talent levels to go Hollywood and gain national exposure for their artwork. It is a natural fit for the nonprofit festival to draw upon our opulent creative community.” The eight day festival will premiere a program of shorts, documentaries and feature films. Previously announced, there will be a tribute for renowned producer Jerry Weintraub, Oceans Thirteen, when he receives the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award. Robin Dawson, BFF Executive Director added, “Boston’s architectural beauty is unparalleled and provides artists (and filmmakers) the ideal backdrop. The cache of the film industry provides a unique vehicle for artists to spotlight their designs while contributing to their portfolio.”
