Project Runway is coming to Canada - Twelve talented and hungry fashion designers are given the opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to break into the notoriously exclusive fashion industry. In each episode one designer is eliminated, until the field is whittled down to only three finalists who will design a collection to show in front of Canada’s fashion community. Ultimately one designer will claim their rightful place in the spotlight, winning the top prize, including $100,000 to begin their own fashion line, and a feature spread showing their winning collection in the pages of the country’s foremost fashion magazine. Five Cuyahoga Community College/American Greetings Excellence in Visual Communication & Design Scholarships are now available for students who wish to enroll in Tri-C’s Visual Communication & Design courses in Fall 2007 (Ohio). The courses are taught at Tri-C’s Western (Parma) and Eastern (Highland Hills) campuses. Each scholarship includes an award of $1,000 divided between two semesters, and a $250 donation to the recipient’s high school art or visual communication department for supplies.
The application deadline is 30 April. To be eligible, applicants must be high school graduates or GED recipients by Fall 2007. Scholarship recipients will be expected to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours at Tri-C and declare a Visual Communication & Design major. Selection will be based on the applicant’s proficiency in one of the following areas:

NOTE: I’m not sure if Furman is calling for entries from across the U.S. or what…you might want to call first before you send your art/design.
Furman University is calling for entries in a juried exhibition titled “Earth,” which will focus on works that inform and inspire people about the natural world. Submissions must be received by 1 April.
The competition is open to all forms of art including photography, mixed media, installation, video, 3-D, or 2-D work of any kind. The public exhibition will be held at Furman University’s Library and University Center from May 1 through 26. Conservation photographer Beth Maynor Young will serve as juror for the exhibition.
Awards will be presented in three categories: High school student, college student and professional/other. A total of $900 in awards will be provided to works selected by the juror. For more information, call (864) 294-2076.

“Last week i visited a superb art venue just outside Paris: La Ferme du Buisson. Each year in October they organize an art festival called Temps d’Images.
“For the 2007 edition they want to spread out of their walls and invade public space. They’ve asked me to curate a show of guerilla art installations and performances (interactive or not) that would engage with and re-appropriate the urban space.
