In honor of Inhabitat’s recent two-year-birthday they are launching our first ever design competition - a green T-shirt design contest! They are partnering with the greenest T-shirt printers on the planet, T.S. Designs, to produce T-shirts made of organic cotton, using 100% water-based, environmentally friendly inks.

They are looking for designs that are creative, cute and that incorporate the Inhabitat brand some way - either through their color palette, bamboo imagery, or the Inhabitat logo or mascot (Habby the Inhabitat Owl). The winning designer will have their design printed on all of Inhabitat’s T-shirts, and will also win a $150 gift certificate to their favorite green design store Branch. Visit the site for details. Lifecycle building is the design of building materials, components, information systems, and management practices to create buildings that facilitate and anticipate future changes to and eventual adaptation or dismantling for recovery of all systems, components, and materials.

The U.S. EPA and its partners are seeking lifecycle designs from professionals and students in building, component and service categories. Deadline for registration: 30 April. Visit the site for details.

This month-long contest is the first major event announced by organizers of this year’s Auckland Festival of Photography (June 1-24.) Photographers of all ages and abilities are invited to capture the spirit of Auckland through the lens of a camera. The winning entry will be turned into a CBD billboard which will be displayed on Auckland’s Fanshawe Street for the duration of the June Festival. April entries are selected for a top ten Peoples Choice Exhibition to be held at SKYCITY 7 May to 20 May. Voting closes on 20 May.

The photos must have been taken in Auckland region and/or be from a body of work of an artist living in the Auckland region (copyrighted to the artist). You must have a 300dpi image available that can be enlarged to fill a large portrait aspect ratio billboard. Digital cameras should be 6 megapixels and film prints should be scanned and available at this large size - IF SELECTED FOR THE PEOPLES CHOICE SELECTION. All entries will be converted to 72 dpi for the website display. So you should submit smaller files for this but have larger files available if required. Visit the site for details.

Chair Affair is celebrating it’s 15th year as Idaho’s premier design competition. The gala is an exciting evening where winners are announced amidst fierce competition. Chair Affair 2007 is open to designers, architects, fabricators, artists and students in the Pacific Northwest who would like to display their original designs. Anything that can be considered furniture or lighting fixtures can be entered into the competition. Art Santa Fe, the City Different’s biennial art fair, is holding a competition to select an art installation for the east facade of El Museo Cultural de Santa Fe in the city’s new contemporary arts district. The open competition will be judged on creativity and the ability to transform the railside exterior of El Museo into a focal point for the new art district. A panel of local arts professionals will select the winning idea. Finalists will have their concepts displayed during ART Santa Fe 2007 in July and the winner will receive a $5,000 award.

Applicants can download an application at Arts Santa Fe. The deadline for entries is 20 April and the winning design will be announced 25 April.

digitalshow.co.uk is an International Digital Art website created by artinliverpool.com. The intention is to show online-only exhibitions of high quality digital art. The first exhibition was held as part of the Independent Biennial Liverpool in 2006 with great success (see the Gallery pages) and this year for our 2nd show they have linked up with Futuresonic 2007 Urban Festival of Electronic Arts and Music in Manchester, UK.
