2009 DiabetesMine Design Challenge

diabetesmine-challenge-logo

The 2009 DiabetesMine Design Challenge, sponsored by the California HealthCare Foundation, is running an online competition to choose a winning design concept that would benefit the quality of life for people with diabetes. The submissions can be product designs, conceptual devices, or web applications.

Graphic Design

Entries are judged upon three parameters:

Relevance - How effective is the idea in solving real-life circumstances for people with diabetes?

Clinical Efficacy - From a medical standpoint, how realistic and applicable is the product or idea?

Aesthetics - Is the design pleasing to the eye as well as being functional?

Entries can be submitted in two ways: A two-minute video uploaded to the DiabetesMine YouTube Channel, or uploading a 2-3 page description of the product with associated graphics. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2009.

The Grand Prize winner receives $10,000 in cash plus a workshop class with design firm IDEO. The "Most Creative Idea" category winner is rewarded with $5,000 plus a free consulting session with IDEO experts. A $2,000 cash prize is awarded the winner in the Kid's Category. Official contest rules can be found here.
