How do you see yourself? How do you think of yourself? How do you think other people see you? Are you the fly on the wall or the center of attention? The Idea of Self stretches further than the self portrait, and into the recesses of the mind, spirit and our subconscious. The Idea of Self takes us on a journey of self enlightenment and discovery allowing the photographer to truly bare their soul or to hide it away. This investigation of who we are, or who we think we are, is uniquely represented through the art of photography.
The exhibition for the Center for Fine Art Photography is open to all domestic and international, professional and amateur, photographers working with digital or traditional photography or combinations of both. The Center for Fine Art Photography invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions. Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental and mixed techniques are welcome.

At Right: 2001 Gold Medal Winner, Village of Arts and Humanities.
Applications for the Rudy Bruner Award now are available. The Rudy Bruner Award considers form only one aspect of urban excellence. An excellent urban place involves the interplay of process, place and values. Processes may be inclusive, innovative, or participatory. Places may be grandiose or modest, new or historic, but must be well designed. Values guide the inevitable tradeoffs involved in bringing a project to life. The Award recognizes that these relationships are not simple. It seeks to illuminate the complex process of urban placemaking, so that it may be strengthened to better reflect the balance between form and use; opportunity and cost; preservation and change. The Gold Medal is a $50,000 award, and the Silver medals are $10,000 each.
Deadline for applications is 15 December 2008. Visit the site to learn more.
