Ok - this is more of a “crafty” type contest, but it looks like fun and the prizes aren’t shabby. Read on…
Scion is challenging the “Do It Yourselfâ€? crowd to channel their inner craftiness and design hand-made car accessories for a Scion vehicle in a craft making competition that reinforces Scion’s commitment to creativity. The winner will take home a 2008 Scion xD five-door subcompact. Produced by non-traditional marketing firm Inform Ventures, the competition is dubbed, “Craft My Ride.”
“Similar to indie films, underground music, and the street art movement, we believe the arts and crafts community harbors undiscovered talent,” said Alan Mimaki, Scion business operations manager. “We want to support raw talent in any form, and to build a lasting relationship within these burgeoning artistic groups. Many of our competition winners have continued to work with Scion long after their contests have finished, and we hope the same goes for this challenge as well.”
Crafters will have until 22 October to submit accessory designs for items such as key chains, seat covers, floor mats, steering wheel covers, tissue holders, etc., to www.CraftMyRide.com. Crafters will need to go to the website to obtain rules and instructions. A pool of craft-friendly retail stores chosen from across the United States will judge submissions, and finalists will be chosen 2 November.
Finalists will have until 16 November to mail in their completed designs consisting of materials common to arts and crafts, for example yarn, fabric, paper, metal, buttons, beads, and ribbon. Judges will select the winners based on creativity, usefulness, and marketability. The first place winner will receive a 2008 Scion xD, with the second place and third place winners receiving $1,000 and $500 respectively.
