The George A. Spiva Center for the Arts in Joplin (Missouri) has issued a call for entries for PhotoSpiva 2007, a national photography competition open to any photographer in the United States or its territories. John Paul Caponigro will be this year’s nationally-recognized juror. PhotoSpiva, with the distinction of being the oldest continuous photographic competition in the United States, is open to amateurs and professionals. $2,000 in cash prizes will be awarded, and any photographic process is eligible.
All entries must be mounted on rigid backing and over-matted with presentation-quality white mat board (minimum two-inch border). No off-white or colored mats, framed prints, or 3-D work will be accepted. Photographers may submit one to five prints for a fee of $40.00 by check or money order made payable to Spiva Center for the Arts. All fees are non-refundable. All work offered for sale during the exhibit is subject to a 40% commission. The deadline for hand delivered or postmarked entries is 5 p.m. on 13 February 2007. Chosen work must remain with the exhibit from 28 April through 22 June 2007. Declined work will be returned beginning on 8 May.
