Massachusetts Call for Artists

competitions 2007, deadlines, may

31 May 2007

I thought that this contest, offered by CD Willy’s, was very cool and - hopefully - someone out there will create a regional, national, or international contest based upon this concept:

Remake/Reformat Recycled CD Art Competition

Discarded compact discs and DVDs represent a growing environmental hazard in communities across the country. According to the independent research organization Worldwatch Institute (www.worldwatch.org), more than 45 tons of CDs become obsolete – outdated, useless or unwanted – every month.

Fortunately, they are also shiny and cool to look at. A used disc can be a canvas on which to apply artistic media, or an expressive medium in its own right. Remake/Reformat was conceived as a vehicle to raise awareness of this problem, as well as to inspire creative uses for these fun and expressive throwaways.

Artists aged 10 to 108 living in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts may submit a maximum of three works. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:

  • Middle School: Open to artists aged 10 through 14 (A parent or legal guardian must assume responsibility for reviewing and complying with all rules and guidelines, and with submitting entry forms and submissions.)
  • High School: Open to artists aged 15 through 18
  • Adult: Open to artists aged 19 through 108

No entry fee, deadline 31 May 2007. There are many more details, so visit the contest site [PDF] and help spread the word.
