The theme for 2008 DestinySpace Fashion Design Competition is commercial space travel. Space tourism is on the brink of reality and the Space Fashion Organization (SFO) has been established to promote awareness of personal space travel and space education opportunities through Space Fashion Design Competitions.
A number of high-powered initiatives, sponsored by the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) involving the development and use of commercial spacecraft that will help to increase public awareness and appreciation for the future of space travel are currently a reality. The level of commercial effort and investment in these activities is significant and involves some of the biggest corporations in the world.
Public support of these developments is limited, and one opportunity for you to participate in a big way is in the design and manufacture of space apparel.
The 2008 DestinySpace Fashion Design Competition is intended to provide the opportunity for students and professionals to contribute their proposed designs for use by civilian space travelers. Specifically the SFO has been established to organize and run design competitions for new space fashion apparel which will be worn on personal space flights by the first generation of commercial space passengers, as well as organize and run children’s design competitions for space-themed artwork which will be featured on printed T-shirts.
Prizes totaling $10,500.00 will be awarded on several levels for both student and professional designers and will include Scholarships, Zero Gravity, and sub-orbital flights.
This is an opportunity for the public to influence the clothing worn by future space travelers and lay the ground work for enhanced technological developments in design and manufacture of space couture.
Those who advance in the competition and who are ultimately selected to receive the top award will be able to see their designs developed into real space tourism wear which will be used for actual space tourism flights beginning in 2009.
Contestants are also encouraged to submit multiple designs to include jeans, shirts, jackets, and hats for the opportunity of having them included in the DestinySpace street wear catalog.
All Applicants must submit a completed entry form and pay appropriate fees by 15 January 2008. Visit the site to learn more.
