PX3 The Human ConditionThis one-time only event aims to document the wide spectrum of peoples’ ways of life around the world. Entries may showcase daily experiences and encounters involving people from any walk of life. Rich to poor, from the West to the Third World, from joyful celebration to global expressions of sorrow. $6,000 in awards. 25 chosen photographers will be exhibited at an as-yet unannounced gallery in Paris, and published in a high quality catalogue. Entry fees are $20 for each photograph, and $30 for each series of 2-5 images. Entries from certain countries will enjoy fee discounts.

Renaissance Photo CompetitionLife is full of moments when the human spirit triumphs over adversity, when the human eye suddenly sees the world from a new perspective, when we rediscover a sense of awe and wonder. You are invited to capture through the lens those instances when we suddenly see the beauty, value and meaning of life. This is what it’s all about with the theme of Renaissance, a color or black and white digital photo contest.

The competition will be held in aid of the Lavender Trust for Breast Cancer Care. Entry fees are £15 for a single image and £25 for a series of up to six related images, all proceeds of which will be donated to the Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care. Design Competition Launched for Memphis’ Shelby Farms Urban Park

Shelby Farms Park AllianceA working penal and rehabilitation farm until the 1960s, subsequently chosen by the Shelby County Commission for future public recreational use, the 4,500-acre Shelby Farms site some 10 miles east of Memphis will soon reassert its status as one of the nation’s premier urban parks, with the nonprofit Shelby Farms Park Conservancy, which manages 2,900 acres of the site, inviting local, national and international architectural and planning firms to seek a $450,000 contract for a park improvement master plan.

The response deadline, writes Conservancy spokeswoman Pamela Perkins in the Memphis Commercial Appeal, is 10 October, with three top firms selected by 12 November to enter an ”Innovative Design Competition,” and their plans exhibited between 6-26 March at the city’s central library.

Olympus CameraThe popular member-based website World Of Photography, better known as Woophy.com, invites digital camera owners from across the world to submit their most beautiful picture to our 3rd annual photo competition. This year’’s contest theme is ”news”. And they don”t mean classic press agency news! Woophy want to see what’s considered ”news” to people living in all different corners of the world: anything from local events to personal takes on issues such as globalisation or climate change. An independent and professional jury will select the winners. All prize-winning photographs will be part of an exhibition to be held in the spring of 2008 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The contest is sponsored by Olympus, who contributed an Olympus E-410 SLR camera as first prize. There are dozens of other prizes as well, such as three Gorillapod tripods, professional photo-editing software, large prints and Woophy t-shirts. The Los Angeles Animation Festival and Ka-Chrew! Hollywood present the Rockin’s Animation call for entries. Animate over, around or on top of TALLY HALL’S live-action footage or LEATHER HANDS’ logo. Work in whatever style you want. Do whatever you want. Just be creative. Selected winning entries will be cut into the final videos of each band, and premiered at the “Los Angeles Animation Festival” on 21 October 2007 (Silent Movie Theatre, 611 N. Fairfax Ave., Los Angeles, USA).

Deadline is 10 October 2007. Entry is free and open to everyone. Enter as many times as you wish. Cash prize of $1,000 for the overall best animated segment. Disney XDAt Right: Disney XD site wins 2007 Best of Show WebAward.

The Web Marketing Association is pleased to announce the winners of its tenth annual WebAward Competition for Web site development. More than 2,400 sites from 40 countries were adjudicated in 96 industry categories during this year’s competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.

“Many of the entries this year continued to show impressive creativity and technical innovation to win in this year’s WebAward competition,” said William Rice, President of the Web Marketing Association. “While some companies are constantly improving their Web efforts in small ways, others are making incredible leaps ahead. The WebAwards has always been a great way for Internet professionals to showcase their work and gain recognition and marketing opportunities for web development that sets the standard for the entire industry.”

I have told you all before - join your local Art Directors Club if you haven’t already, and submit your work for awards like the following. It’s great for business, and you can send out press releases when you win! The Ema site is fairly incredible…

Ema Design Inc. announces that its company web site, www.emadesign.com, has been selected as a merit award winner in the Art Directors Club of Denver (ADCD) 2007 annual show.

Thomas Ema said “I am honored to receive this award in one of today’s evolving areas of design.” As with the specialties presented in the website, Identity, Print and Signage, this award symbolizes Ema’s ability to continually produce work on the highest level regardless of media.
