Designers, advertising agencies, and firms producing communication design pieces from around the world are invited to submit their work to the Red Dot Award competition and to expose their talents to the world. With over 6,000 submissions last year alone, the red dot design award is a top design competition and one of the biggest worldwide. Products and works that stand out in the competition will then be presented to the public for one year in the red dot design museum. Registrations can be made online at www.red-dot.de/registration. The 7th Annual Tiburon International Film Festival (TIFF) will be held March 13-21, 2008 in Tiburon, California. Deadline to submit films and posters: 1 December 2007.

If you’re into photography and you can face Mondays, you might be interested in Plataforma Humana’s 100×100x100 project. The idea is to take pictures from when you wake up until you go to bed, taking on an average a picture every 10 minutes. Pictures of everything, anything that comes up, the bread (muffin, bagle, scone) that you eat for breakfast, the car in front of you, the old lady in the bus, your boss, your computer, your pen (pencil), everything or nothing, depending on what you do. The perfect excuse to take pictures of all that you wished you can take a picture of at some point in your life, but never had a good reason to do so.

The idea behind the project is to be able to see through a web page how many different people around the world spend a MONDAY. The project began 2 Oct 2006, but it appears that they need more entries. Go for it. I want to see what YOU do on Monday.

Sydney’s Gas Exhibition showcases graphic design, illustration, photography, sculpture, film, street art and graffiti from around the globe, and they’re calling for entries. There are only 50 positions available for artists, and depending on the scope and range of your work you may be selected to showcase more than one piece. Design a feature film poster for an open source movie! Using the image at right (larger image at link below), create a portrait or landscape aspect ratio poster for the movie, Unfold.

The image explores one of the main visual effects of the story — the idea of the world splitting, fracturing, and unfolding. The poster should showcase this using the photograph as a core visual, but with additional typographic and illustrative elements as the designer sees fit. This is an opportunity to indulge in classic and artistic poster design free of the usual commercial imperatives and informational clutter associated with many modern examples.
