Rethink Breast Cancer has challenged everyone interested in fashion across Canada to design/create a unique ‘target’ inspired t-shirt that represents their take on the issue of breast cancer or how the cause has affected them.
The design must:
- Creatively incorporate the signature ‘target’ logo (please see above)
- The colours, shape and placement of the ‘target’ logo can be manipulated as the designer sees fit
- Must be a t-shirt (short, long, sleeves or sleeveless, etc. – students are encouraged to be as creative as possible!)
- Represent the designer’s take on the issue of breast cancer, or how the cause has affected them

An integral portion of the Schedium series is a portfolio Call for Entries, intended to celebrate the drawing abilities of emerging architects. Winners may be asked to participate in the live drawing series. To be eligible, you must possess a degree in architecture, or an equivalent international degree. Entrants must have either received their degree after January 1, 1991 or have received their architectural license after January 1, 1997 (whichever criterion is less restrictive). International practitioners are welcomed. The jury will consist of a five-person team, selected to represent a cross-section of the profession today. The Guild of Accessible Web Designers want a new Website that reflects their aims, that embodies their message, and that reflects their brand. The site entries will be judged on aesthetics, usability, and cross platform and browser compatibility. The design should be a liquid or 100% width layout, and while client-side scripting is allowed, the site must still work if that scripting is turned off. Members and nonmembers are invited to participate. Although the prizes are minimal, the distinction for the winning design is huge. Visit the site for details. Deadline 30 April.

Inspired by the wild, Durban Wild Talk Africa is a premier international wildlife, travel and culture film festival and conference which takes place in South Africa. It attracts the global wildlife, travel and culture film making industry by offering a forum for delegates to meet, network and negotiate with Commissioning Editors, Distributors and Producers.
The awards will fall under the following categories: best cinematography; best production using innovative technology; best wildlife production on a limited budget; best children’s wildlife production; best environmental and conservation/campaign production; best eco-tourism, travel and/or culture production; best newcomer.
The ROSCAR Celebratory Award, the bronze Rhino sculpture, was unveiled at the jubilant finale gala event at Wild Talk Africa 2006. This year, winners of the various categories will be presented with a ROSCAR Award at a prestigious evening event, one of the highlights of the 4-day Festival. The top 15 quarter-finalists have been chosen from hundreds of entries in the “Chrysler Sebring Hats Off to the Derby” national hat design contest. Contestants now move to the online voting portion of the contest, where the public will help determine whose hat is worthy of wearing to the Derby. Three finalists will win a weekend trip to the 133rd Kentucky Derby and the grand prize winner will receive an all-new 2008 Chrysler Sebring Convertible.
Entrants were challenged to submit a sketch of an original hat design that captures the essence of the Chrysler Sebring Convertible and the sophistication of the Kentucky Derby, while incorporating material from the Sebring Convertible’s soft top. Contestants’ hat designs were judged on originality and functionality of design, replication feasibility and written description of the hat.

Face it - when news boils down to scholarships in Ohio, an underwater photo competition, and Project Runway, it’s time to take a break. I’ll be gone for just a few days to visit my globe-trotting daughter, but you won’t miss anything that can’t wait until I return. Photographers will compete in four still image categories, including a category for images that focus on California’s unique and beautiful underwater environment, and one video category. Project Runway is coming to Canada - Twelve talented and hungry fashion designers are given the opportunity of a lifetime – a chance to break into the notoriously exclusive fashion industry. In each episode one designer is eliminated, until the field is whittled down to only three finalists who will design a collection to show in front of Canada’s fashion community. Ultimately one designer will claim their rightful place in the spotlight, winning the top prize, including $100,000 to begin their own fashion line, and a feature spread showing their winning collection in the pages of the country’s foremost fashion magazine. Five Cuyahoga Community College/American Greetings Excellence in Visual Communication & Design Scholarships are now available for students who wish to enroll in Tri-C’s Visual Communication & Design courses in Fall 2007 (Ohio). The courses are taught at Tri-C’s Western (Parma) and Eastern (Highland Hills) campuses. Each scholarship includes an award of $1,000 divided between two semesters, and a $250 donation to the recipient’s high school art or visual communication department for supplies.
The application deadline is 30 April. To be eligible, applicants must be high school graduates or GED recipients by Fall 2007. Scholarship recipients will be expected to enroll in a minimum of 12 credit hours at Tri-C and declare a Visual Communication & Design major. Selection will be based on the applicant’s proficiency in one of the following areas:
