Do you revel in sweating it out and meeting 15-minute deadlines? Then this contest is for you. Cut&Paste is the live digital design competition that pits eight of their city's best graphic designers against each other in an elimination battle of creativity, technical expertise, and wit. The competitors will work live on stage, in front of an audience and panel of expert judges. An MC will host the festivities and a soundtrack will be provided by hometown favorite DJs. But, what if you're not in your city's top eight?
This year's Cut&Paste tour will feature not one, but TWO competitions in every city, simply because they love to give away prizes. The Audience Design Contest is freshly baited with a Wacom Graphire 6x8 Tablet for the taking. Hungry for it?
The contest will take place throughout the night, simultaneously with the main Cut&Paste tournament. Anyone can play, provided you stay within the 10-minute time limit. Just like the eight hotshots designing for their lives onstage, contestants in the Audience Design Contest will have to produce lightning-fast designs according to a theme. This year's theme requires a bit of urban egomania: What makes YOUR city better than MY city?
To enter the Audience Design Contest, look for the Contest Workstations, all set up with 21" Wacom Cintiq interactive displays, Adobe CS2, and the new, soon-to-be-released Adobe Kuler, an online color-matching tool that should help shave a few minutes off your masterpiece at contest locations in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco (see dates below).
After each event, all contest designs will be presented on the C&P website for a 2-week online voting period. And yes, anyone can vote for their favorite designs from each city, so feel free to call mom & dad to demand their support. You could be the next design champ!
As for the Top Eight...
Contestants create winning masterpieces in 15-minute competitive rounds, armed with Apple PowerMac G5 workstations, Adobe Creative Suite software, and Wacom Cintiq interactive pen displays, along with various traditional design tools at their disposal. They must create all work FROM SCRATCH, but they may use digital cameras to capture physical artwork and pre-approved objects to include in their designs.
Each contestant's work will be projected on their own individual projection screen allowing the audience to witness each mouseclick and keystroke in real-time. A separate screen will display a live camera feed documenting the intense action at each workstation. The eight selected competitors will compete in three 15-minute rounds in order to reach the top.
